Consultation has concluded

Earlier this year, Council commissioned a Feasibility Study to investigate the financial and social implications of building and operating an indoor pool and identify a suitable site for such a facility.

The report, that includes three proposed options for an indoor pool, was presented to Council at its July meeting.

Council is now seeking community input into the report and residents are encouraged to provide their feedback via the survey below.

At its July 2019 Meeting, Council resolved to place the Indoor Pool feasibility study on public exhibition.

Fifty-two submissions were received from the community, all in favour of developing an indoor pool facility.

The most popular option was for a stand-alone indoor pool, rather than being combined with the existing pool infrastructure.

The option to only cover the existing outdoor pool was the least favoured option. While supportive of an indoor pool, a number of submissions focused on the constraints of the existing Mudgee Pool complex site, particularly in relation to the impact on the green spade areas of Lawson Park and concerns over availability of parking and the impact on residences along Short Street. Another site was suggested by a number of respondents, with Cahill Park among the alternative suggestions.

At the October 2019 Meeting, Councillors unanimously voted in support of the construction of an indoor swimming pool facility in Mudgee and requested that a further report be brought back to Council with an option to develop an indoor swimming facility at a new location in Mudgee.

Council surveyed 2500 of the region's residents from May 2016 to February 2017 as part of a review of its Community Strategic Plan.

Respondents rated an Indoor Pool or Aquatic Centre as their second highest rated priority project.

To understand the viability of such a project, from both an economic and social consideration, Council has contracted expertise to assist with an Indoor Pool Feasibility Study.

RMP and Associates have been employed to undertake such a study with the objectives to:

    • Undertake an assessment of the current market and the latent market if an indoor all year-round pool or pools were built.
    • To review the current Mudgee pool site, conduct a site analysis and identify the most suitable site for the facility and the possibility of the integration of a proposed indoor facility.
    • The study is to include alternative options with a clear conclusion on the financial implications of building and operating an indoor pool.
    • The consultant’s report is to outline all assumptions, data, options and costs.
    • The study is to include an assessment of the current venue designs and functionality and provide a guide for the future development and refurbishment of the Aquatic Facilities.

A final report with findings is expected to be provided to Council in June/July.

Council has commenced an Indoor Pool Feasibility Study to be undertaken by RMP and Associates following strong community support for the project.

Council survey 2500 residents of the region from May 2016 to February 2017 as part of a review of its Community Strategic Plan. Residents rated an indoor pool or aquatic centre as their second highest rated priority project.

RMP and Associates are currently undertaking a project to review the current Mudgee pool site, conduct a site analysis and identify the most suitable site for the facility; and present alternative options with a clear conclusion on the financial implications of building and operating an indoor pool.

A final report with findings is due to be provided to Council in May.
